Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information EngKor ("we", "us") collects, how we use it, and your choices. It applies to engkorkorean.com and the EngKor Service.

1. What We Collect

Account information: your real name, email address, and an optional nickname.

Profile information: your date of birth, time zone, role (member or mentor), the dates of the challenge periods you join, and your daily reminder email settings.

Submissions: the writing screenshots and speaking audio recordings you upload as part of the daily challenge, and the mentor feedback about them (written feedback and short voice clips your mentor records about your speaking).

Payment information: we do not collect or store your card or PayPal account details. Payments are handled entirely by PayPal; we only receive confirmation that a payment succeeded and basic billing status.

Technical and usage information: standard information your browser sends automatically (such as general device/browser type) as part of normal web hosting on Cloudflare Pages, plus the analytics described below.

1-1. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies for two purposes:

• Google Analytics (GA4): collects anonymized usage statistics (pages visited, general device/browser type, approximate location) so we can understand how people use the Service.
• Microsoft Clarity: records how you interact with the page (clicks, scrolling, and session playback) so we can spot confusing or broken parts of the Service. Clarity is configured to mask sensitive input fields where applicable.

Visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland see a cookie banner, and neither tool is loaded until you select Accept All. If you select Reject All, no analytics cookies are set. Visitors from other regions can turn analytics off at any time. Anyone can change their choice at any time with Cookie settings in the footer of our main page. We determine your region from your connection's country, as reported by our hosting provider (Cloudflare), and only use it to decide whether to show the banner.

Neither tool is used for advertising, and we do not use third-party advertising trackers. You can also opt out by: (1) using your browser's cookie/site-data settings to block cookies from this site, (2) installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or (3) using a browser tracking-protection or ad-blocking extension that blocks Clarity/Analytics scripts. Blocking these does not affect your ability to use the Service.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To create and manage your account and route you to the correct dashboard (member or mentor).
• To let our mentors review your writing and speaking submissions and give you feedback.
• To calculate and display your streak, completion rate, and the community leaderboard.
• To process your payments and manage billing (via PayPal).
• To communicate with you about your account or the Service (e.g., confirming signup, feedback notifications, renewal reminders, and daily check-in reminders, which you can turn off in My Account).

We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

3. Who Can See Your Submissions

• You can always see your own Submissions and feedback.
• EngKor's mentors (our staff) can see your Submissions to provide correction and feedback.
• Other members cannot see your Submissions. The community leaderboard only shows your nickname (or your name, if you haven't set a nickname) and a completion percentage, never the underlying content.

4. Processing Entrusted to Third Parties / Where Your Data Is Stored (처리위탁 및 국외이전)

We entrust the processing of your personal data to the following third parties to operate EngKor. Several of these process data outside Korea, which is necessary to provide the Service; by using the Service, you consent to this transfer.

• Supabase (United States / AWS infrastructure): authentication and database hosting; stores your account info, feedback, and Submission records.
• PayPal (United States): payment processing and billing; receives your name and the amount charged.
• Google LLC (United States): Google Analytics (usage statistics) and email delivery via Gmail (e.g., feedback notifications, renewal reminders, and daily check-in reminders).
• Microsoft Corporation (United States): Microsoft Clarity, for on-page behavior analytics and session recording.
• Cloudflare, Inc. (United States): website hosting and content delivery (Cloudflare Pages), and file storage for the screenshots and voice recordings in your Submissions and for your mentors' voice feedback clips (Cloudflare R2). These files are kept in private storage and can only be opened through short-lived links by you and your mentors.

Each of these providers processes only the data necessary for its function and is contractually or by policy restricted from using your data for its own purposes.

5. Data Retention and Destruction (보유기간 및 파기절차)

We keep your account and Submissions for as long as your account is active.

Deleting your account. You can delete your account yourself at any time: log in, select My Account, then Delete account, and confirm with your email. You can also ask us by email. Your account is then scheduled for deletion and you are logged out. For 7 days you can restore it by logging back in. After those 7 days, we permanently destroy your profile (name, nickname, email, date of birth, and time zone), your Submissions (including screenshots and voice recordings), feedback on your Submissions (including mentor voice clips), and your challenge applications, by irreversibly deleting them from our database and our file storage (Cloudflare R2), not merely hiding them from the application. During the 7 days, your account is hidden from mentors and the leaderboard.

Exception: payment records. As required under Korean e-commerce consumer protection law (records of contracts, withdrawals, and payments must be kept for 5 years), we keep the following even after your account is deleted: PayPal order and transaction numbers, amount and currency, payment date, the challenge period paid for, and your name and email at the time of payment. These records are stored separately from your account, used only for refunds, tax, and dispute handling, kept for 5 years from the payment date, and then destroyed in the same manner. PayPal keeps its own records of your payments under PayPal's privacy policy.

6. Your Rights

You can:

• Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct inaccurate information.
• Delete your account and associated data yourself (My Account, then Delete account), or ask us to.
• Stop renewing at any time (there is no subscription to cancel; see our Terms).

7. Children's Privacy

EngKor is not directed at children under 14. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 14.

8. Privacy Officer (개인정보 보호책임자)

EngKor's privacy officer is Jisoo Lee, reachable at engkorproject@gmail.com, for any questions, concerns, or complaints about how your personal data is handled.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service evolves. We will post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date, and notify active members of material changes.
